The Wesley House Community Center is in desperate need of assistance from the community.
The center is beginning its Christmas Clearing House, which provides help for needy families during the holiday season. Items needed include monetary donations, canned goods, turkeys, hams, clothing and new toys.
Besides helping the needy all year, Wesley House also offers 32 different community programs such as classes to teach people how to find a job and new mothers how to care for their children.
The center is also taking applications for assistance throughout the month of October. People in need of help during the holiday season can apply at the center Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
Applicants must provide proof of income, rent or mortgage receipt, TANF, food stamps, SSI, utility bills and identification.
Grissom said the center will help thousands of people during the holiday season.
The Wesley House Community Center is at 1520 Eighth Ave. For information, call 485-4736.
