Caroline Elizabeth Sparks and Matthew Hopkins Grenfell were wed Saturday, May 31, 2003, at 6 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Jackson. The double-ring ceremony was officiated by the Rev. Les Newsom.
Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. James Olin Sparks, and Dr. and Mrs. Raymond Frederic Grenfell Jr.
Music for the ceremony was provided by Connie Wadsworth, organist; Erin Findley, vocalist; Trent Dabbs, guitarist and vocalist; and Lyon Chadwick, violinist.
The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore a strapless gown of silk organza featuring a dropped waistline and cathedral-length train. The bodice was adorned with pearls and crystals. She wore a cathedral-length veil of silk illusion edges in silk bias ribbon.
Her bouquet was roses in shades of white and cream with seed pearl embroidery. She carried a handkerchief that belonged to her maternal great-great-grandmother, carried by the bride's mother in her wedding.
Brittney Leigh Smith served as maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Mary Veazey Greenlee, Harper Wise Jones, Mary Shelton Jones, Catherine Boyd Leech, Ann Catherine Magee, Mary Ellen Maples, Mary Claire Primos, Catherine Clayton Russ and Gretchen Marie Segrest.
The father of the bridegroom served as best man. Groomsmen and ushers were Raymond Frederic Grenfell III, brother of the bridegroom, James Richard Sparks, brother of the bride, Andrew Barrett Brashier, Michael Mashburn Butler, Regan Ashley Costello, Matthew Jacob Flynn, Justin Thomas Gentry, Marshall Cody Harrell, Grant Monroe Joiner, Charles Reid McMillan, William Sparkman Overstreet and Andrew David Segrest.
Book attendant was Sara Elizabeth Turner. Program attendants were Sarah Elizabeth Grenfell, Catherine Byrnes Grenfell and Kelly Ivy Gardner, cousins of the bridegroom. Staci Ann Henson was the stand-in bride.
Greeting guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. Gene Simmons, and Dr. and Mrs. Mike Tramel.
A reception was held at the Fairview Inn following the ceremony. Assisting at the reception were Mr. and Mrs. John McManus, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Primos.
On the eve of the wedding, the parents of the bridegroom hosted a rehearsal dinner at Annandale Golf Club.
After a honeymoon to St. Barths, the couple resides in Oxford where the bride is a fourth grade teacher at Water Valley Elementary School and the bridegroom is a second-year law student at the University of Mississippi.
