For the fifth straight week Lamar School went into a big football game and for the fifth straight week the Raiders blew their opponents away in the first quarter.
The Raiders came out rolling on Friday night at Grey Cobb Field to take a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and went on to take a 49-7 district win over visiting Adams County Christian School.
The worry didn't last long as the Raiders took advantage of great field position to put up two quick touchdowns.
After stopping the Rebels on their first possession, the Raiders took over the ball at Adams Christian's 43-yard line. Six plays later Drew Moffett carried the ball in from four yards out and Tommy Edgerton hit the PAT to make the score 7-0 with 8:22 left in the first quarter.
Adams Christian fumbled on its next play from scrimmage and Will Carter picked up the football to give the Raiders more great field position.
After an 18-yard pass from Moffett to David Haggard, Lane Rush picked up a two-yard touchdown run. Edgerton's PAT made the score 14-0 with 7:53 left in the first quarter.
After another ACCS three-and-out, the Raiders took the ball in good field position and scored three plays later. Daniel Bennett followed good blocking and broke free for a 34-yard touchdown run. Edgerton's kick made the score 21-0 with 5:27 left in the opening quarter.
Another three-and-out gave the Raiders good field position at the Adams 34-yard line. Four plays later Rush found a hole for a five-yard touchdown run to make the score 28-0 with 1:50 left in the first quarter.
Lamar continued to play great defense and added to the lead in the second quarter. After taking over in Adams Christian territory, the Raiders drove 47 yards for another touchdown.
Rush picked up another touchdown on a three-yard run and Edgerton's PAT made the score 35-0 at half.
Lamar continued to control the game in the second half. The Raiders took the opening kickoff and drove down the field in four plays to pick up another touchdown.
Moffett rolled right and found Randy Boyd Thompson wide open for a 45-yard touchdown pass to make the score 42-0 with 9:50 left in the third quarter.
Later in the third quarter Tyler Evans picked up a fumble for the Raiders to give Lamar more great field position.
Backup quarterback Scott Owen moved the Raiders inside the five-yard line with a 12-yard run and Bennett scored on a three-yard run to make the score 49-0.
The Rebels scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Raiders began to put in a lot of subs. ACCS drove 77 yards on 13 plays to reach the end zone.
Dustin Case hit David Trisler for a 40-yard completion on fourth down and Luke Ogden finished off the drive with a one-yard run. The PAT by Timmy Foster made the final score 49-7.
Lamar moves to 7-1 for the season and 2-1 in division play with the victory. The Raiders will play another division game next week as they travel to play Copiah Academy.
