Lions end season with tough foe

SCOOBA East Mississippi head football coach Tom Goode scratches his head when people tell him that his team's opponent for the final game of the regular season isn't as strong as it used to be.
The Lions (3-5) will travel to Hinds Community College to take on the Eagles Thursday, as the two teams close out the regular season.
Goode has been perplexed by comments from a few people saying Hinds is not the team of old, despite the fact that the Eagles have already won the South.
The Lions may be lining up against their toughest opponent at the end of the 2003 season, but the team is also coming off one of its best performances of the year.
EMCC snapped a four-game slide, winning its final home game of the season over Coahoma Community College last Thursday.
EMCC forced six turnovers, three interceptions and three fumbles, in the win.
The Lions will need to follow a similar formula if they hope to close out the season on a two-game winning streak.
Goode said even though his team cannot finish the season with a winning record, Thursday's contest is an important game for the players.
Along with giving the freshman something to build on next season, it will be the last time the sophomores can showcase their talents.
EMCC is scheduled to kick off against Hinds at 7 p.m. Thursday.
