Several plans have been made this year in observance of Veterans Day, including a parade scheduled for Nov. 8.
The theme of the parade is "United We Stand," according to James E. Slayton, chairman of the Memorial Day/Veterans Day Committee of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 79.
The deadline for submitting applications for a parade entry is Friday. The VFW phone number is 485-4042.
The parade is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., starting at 25th Avenue and Eighth Street.
On Nov. 10, the Memory Tree Foundation will hold its annual "Hanging of the Ribbons."
Scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Bonita Lakes Park entrance off Veterans Highway, a tree will be decorated with personalized yellow ribbons in memory of veterans.
Ribbons may be purchased through the Memory Tree Foundation. The money is used for scholarships and educational projects.
For more information about the ribbons or to purchase ribbons, call Lou Pennebaker at 482-3685 or 917-4480.
On Veterans Day, Nov. 11, a ceremony in observance of the holiday will be held at the Doughboy Monument on the corner of 23rd Avenue and Sixth Street in downtown Meridian. It is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
