Downtown wreck stops traffic

Meridian police are investigating a five-car traffic accident that happened at a busy downtown intersection Wednesday.
The accident happened about 9:45 a.m. at the intersection of Eighth Street and 24th Avenue. It stopped traffic for about 30 minutes as Meridian police and firefighters inspected the accident and cleared the street of debris.
Capt. Tommy Miller of the Meridian Police Department said four people involved in the accident were sent to local hospitals with minor injuries.
Police closed three different one-block sections of downtown streets while crews cleared wreckage from the intersection. The MPD is investigating the accident.
