The Meridian Community College Foundation has honored Beth Calderon, awarding her the William B. Crooks Teaching Chair named in honor of the man who served on the MCC Foundation Board of Directors from 1988 until his death in 1993.
Calderon received the honor at the MCC Foundation annual banquet Tuesday night at Northwood Country Club. The William B. Crooks Teaching Chair honors Crooks' dedication to education and the building of community in East Mississippi.
Calderon will have the opportunity to initiate or refine course or program development; purchase books, materials and equipment to improve a course or program; and travel and study to develop new programs, performances or events.
The Crooks Teaching Chair was the first endowed chair in any community college in Mississippi. It was one of the few such endowed chairs at any community college in the country.
Calderon is Spanish instructor at MCC. She has been employed with the college for six years and is married to Carlos Calderon. She is the mother of three children.
