West Lauderdale made sure its Thanksgiving holiday would be a little happier by taking two basketball games from Newton Tuesday night at Collinsville.
In the boys' game, the Knights got 18 points from Chris Seaphus, 15 from Kolin Boyd, 13 from Lee Nelson, eight from Mark Floyd, seven from Daniel Huggins, and six from Scott Grady to beat the Tigers 69-61.
The Knights improved to 7-2 despite missing 17 free throws.
West used a 12-0 run to lead 22-13 at the end of the first quarter and took a 41-32 lead into halftime on a long 3-pointer by Huggins off an inbounds play near midcourt just before the horn sounded.
The Knights held a 49-38 advantage in the third quarter before Newton used a 12-2 run to close to within 53-51 heading into the fourth quarter.
Newton trailed 63-57 with just under two minutes remaining, but missed four straight shots underneath the basket and saw Boyd score a driving layup on the other end as a potential four-point game now had West up by eight points with 1:41 to go.

Two scoring droughts enabled the Lady Knights to take the opener with ease.
Leading 12-10 at the end of the first quarter, West held the Lady Tigers scoreless for the first five minutes, 20 seconds of the second quarter to take a 25-10 advantage.
Up 46-26 through three periods, the Lady Knights blanked Newton over the first five minutes, seven seconds of the fourth quarter to go up 56-26.
Vankeila Wilson led the 7-2 Lady Knights with 23 points.
West also got 14 points from Shannon Lloyd, nine from Kaihia Fitch, and six each from Whitney Gale and Sommer Jones.
Newton, 5-2, got 11 points from Nicole Williams, eight from Jessica Anderson, and six from Rosalind Jones.
