Meridian High sweeps Jackson Murrah on pitch

Meridian High School swept visiting Jackson Murrah in district soccer action at Jaycee Soccer Complex on Friday night.
The Meridian boys rolled to a 9-1 win and the Lady Wildcats cruised to a 10-0 victory.
The win moves the boys to 5-6 for the year and 1-1 in district play. The Lady Wildcats moved to 9-4 on the season with the win.
Both teams will be back in action Monday night at Northeast Lauderdale.

The Wildcats jumped out to an early lead and poured it on to take a division win over the Mustangs.
Eddie Bowles scored a pair of goals to lead Meridian.
Blake Remy got the scoring going early in the first quarter. His low, long shot slipped past the keeper to give MHS a 1-0 lead.
Later in the half, Philip Sullivan crossed the ball to Steven Cook who avoided a collision with the goalie and deflected the ball in to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.
Bowles picked up his first goal of the game as he shot the ball into the left side of the goal to make the score 3-0.
Bowles added his second goal of the game later in the first half. Hank Holcomb fed him with a pass and his one-touch shot beat the keeper to make the score 4-0 at half.
Willie Brinson kept the goals coming in the second half as he deflected a pass by Sullivan into the right side of the goal.
Steven Sollie added a goal minutes later as he found some space and shot into the side of the net to make the score 6-0.
Andrew Gambrell found some space later in the half and hit a left-footed shot into the top left corner of the goal to extend the lead to 7-0.
Danny Derrington scored on a one-on-one opportunity after another pass from Sullivan to make the score 8-0.
After Murrah added a goal, Deran Wilson finished off the scoring with a shot past the keeper.

The Lady Wildcats controlled the entire game and put away 10 goals to blast Murrah.
Murrah was unable to get a shot on goal as Meridian kept the pressure on the visitors.
Jessica Weathers, Leanna Baldner, Kortney Harris and Lanie Simcox each scored two goals for the Lady Wildcats in the division victory.
Weathers started the scoring with a goal in the opening minutes to make the score 1-0.
Amy Mowdy passed to Simcox later in the half and Simcox found the left side of the goal with a shot to make the score 2-0.
Simcox added another goal minutes later on a shot that hit the top post and came down into the goal.
Harris picked up her first goal later in the first half with a shot into the left side of the net to make the score 4-0.
Baldner ripped a shot into the left corner of the goal to stretch the score to 5-0 and Weathers added her second goal minutes later.
Harris finished off the first-half scoring with a shot off the top post that just got in to make the score 7-0 at halftime.
The Lady Wildcats added three goals in the second half. Baldner scored the first goal of the half on a pass by Harris.
Brett Bullock made the score 9-0 and Tiffany Hickman scored on a free kick to make the final score 10-0.
