Keith Justice, a longtime Mississippi journalist, and his wife, Virginia, were killed Friday in a motor vehicle accident near their home on Highway 492 about three miles east of Union in Neshoba County.
Staff Sgt. Michael Cain, accident reconstructionist with the Mississippi Highway Patrol, said the Justices, both 54, were pronounced dead at the scene.
He said the Justices were traveling west and slowed to turn into the driveway of their home near the Newton County-Neshoba County line when their vehicle was rear-ended by a 1999 Ford F150 pickup truck driven by Leah Laird of Union.
Cain said she was taken to Alliance-Laird Hospital in Union with minor injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Justice was a former reporter for The Meridian Star and The Newton Record. He was also a former Newton County Emergency Management coordinator. Newton County Sheriff Jackie Knight called Justice a very good friend and neighbor.
Robbie Robertson, publisher of The Record, described Justice as a solid newsman.
