BULLARD, Texas The Meridian Community College golf team wrapped up the first day of play in the TJC Spring Intercollegiate Golf Tournament with a combined 322.
Joel Myrick led the Eagles' efforts on the links with a 79, and Winston Powell scored an 80 in the first round. Clay Jarrell tallied an 81 for MCC, and Chad Hopkins finished with an 82.
Tyler Black leads the field of 15 teams with a first-day total of 307. McLennan, Tyler Gold, South Mountain and Paris are all tied for second with a first-day 311.
PREP GOLF
Meridian High School finished fourth with a team score of 358 in golf action against West Jones, Pearl, South Jones and Laurel on Tuesday.
Dennis Graham led the Wildcats' efforts on the links with a team-low 87, and Timmy Sikes and Cole Clopton each shot a 90.
Brad Beiley recorded a 91, and Erick Tolleson finished with a 93.
West Jones won the competition with a 324. Pearl finished with a 248, and South Jones recorded a 350. Laurel ended with a 380.

Meridian High School swept past Newton County on the tennis courts Tuesday.
The Wildcats' Kyle Dew recorded a 2-6, 7-6, 6-3 victory over Kennard Johnson in boys single's action, and Anna Allread defeated Kalen Anderson 6-1, 6-2.
In boys doubles, Graham Wood and Will Compton notched the win for Meridian High over Noah Cook and Devarus Walker 6-1, 6-0.
Kortney Harris and Kelly Sterling combined for a 6-0, 6-0 win in girls doubles action over Lauren McDonald and Dru Anderson.
Nathan Kittrell and Hannah Ford scored a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win for Meridian High against Josh Cook and Maggie McDill in mixed doubles.
West Lauderdale 5
Raleigh 0
The Knights swept Raleigh on Monday to continue its great start to the 2004 season.
Brooke Bounds and Mat Shamrock picked up a win in the mixed doubles 6-1, 6-0, and Clayton Keller and Eric Smith took a doubles win 6-2, 3-6, 6-0 for West Lauderdale.
Scott Truesdale won in boys single's action 6-1, 7-5, and Leigh Cook picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory in girls single's.
West Jones 5
Northeast Lauderdale 0
The West Jones Mustangs blanked the Northeast Lauderdale Trojans 5-0 in prep tennis Monday.
West's Rebecca Benson defeated Miriam Christina Gardner 6-0, 6-0, and Blake Sherman defeated Tyler Barnett 6-0, 6-0.
West's J.J. Benson and Meghann Ainsworth defeated Geri Jannsen and Gisinna Sonnet 6-0, 6-1, and Andrew Hortman and Lee Hubbard defeated Tyler McNeal and Jordan Mathis 7-6 (7-1), 6-2.
Cade Sherman and Mary Alice Howard defeated Matt Goodman and Jennifer Kueven 6-1, 6-0.
JUCO TENNIS
The Meridian Community College men's tennis team played two matches on Saturday in the Central Alabama Invitational. The men lost to powerhouse ABAC, ranked No. 3 in the nation, 9-0. In their second match, the men defeated Gordon College by a score of 6-3.
The Meridian CC women were defeated by University of Montevallo 8-1. Britley Kimbriel claimed a victory at the No. 4 flight for the only win of the match. In the second match of the day, Meridian was defeated by Central Alabama Community College 6-3. Britley Kimbriel and Amy Frazier won the No. 2 flight doubles, Britley Kimbriel won her singles at the No. 4 flight and Amy Cole won the No. 2 singles flight.
Both teams are 5-3 on the season. The women will play host to Co-Lin on Wednesday afternoon on campus.
The teams will travel on Thursday to Jones Junior College.
