Wildcats take win over Murrah

JACKSON The Meridian High School baseball team notched a 10-0 win in five innings over Murrah on Friday to improve to 6-3 for the season.
Ken Mitts (4-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Wildcats, allowing one hit and striking out nine in five innings.
Meridian High's Kedric Martin hit a grand slam in the second inning, and Kimone McDade hit a solo homer in the first.
Mitts tallied three hits with a double for the Wildcats, and Rodney Warren and Chris Harris each had two hits. Warren hit a double.
Meridian High continues its season today at Q.V. Sykes Park. The Wildcats will take on Wayne County at 1 p.m., and they host Columbus at 6 p.m.

Newton County Academy improved its record to 6-1 for the year with a win over Wayne Academy on Friday.
Sam Thames allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits in six innings of work with one strikeout to notch the win for NCA.
Hedrik Blake recorded three hits with a double and two RBIs for NCA, and Daniel Grimes had a double and two RBIs.
Kirby Jordan took the loss for Wayne Academy, giving up seven hits while striking out three in six innings, and Greg Kirkland recorded three hits.
NCA takes on Lamar at 1 p.m. today.
Enterprise 2
Clarkdale 0
Wade Weathers gave up one hit to Clarkdale's Blake Johnson to record a win for Enterprise on Friday. Weathers struck out nine and walked four in a complete-game effort.
Clarkdale's Kyle Boswell took the loss on the mound, striking out 12 and giving up four hits in seven innings.
Lance Irby hit a pair of singles and a double for Enterprise, and Scott Moseley and Zeb Swain each had singles.
Enterprise plays at home against Seminary at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Philadelphia's Coker Fulton pitched a no-hitter and recorded 10 strikeouts in a win over Kemper County on Friday.
Bubba Boler and Jason Reed each hit two singles and a double for Philadelphia, and Jamaal Peebles hit a triple and home run in the win. Jonathan Pickens hit two singles for Philadelphia, and Jeremy Boler smacked a double and a homer.
W. Lauderdale 10
Choctaw Central 2
West Lauderdale's Paxton Pace allowed no runs on two hits while striking out 11 to notch a win over Choctaw Central on Friday.
Tyler Vick smacked a double and a triple with two RBIS for the Knights (11-0), and Bo Davis hit a single and a double with one RBI.
West plays Union at 1 p.m. today on the road, and the Knights host Carthage at 7 p.m.
PREP SOFTBALL
Newton County's scheduled game against Carthage on Friday was rescheduled. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader on April 2 at Newton County.
JUCO BASEBALL
Delgado 9
EMCC 5
East Mississippi came back from a five-run deficit before surrendering four more runs and losing 9-5 to Delgado on Friday.
Cody Ashworth (0-1) picked up the loss for the Lions. Shortstop David Nanney had two hits for East Mississippi, which hosts Delgado today in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
JUCO SOFTBALL

Pearl River 7, ECCC 2
East Central's Laura Barrett (1-3) and Laurie Smith (3-2) each took a loss in a doubleheader against Pearl River on Friday. The Lady Warriors are 5-5 for the season, and their next game is against Copiah-Lincoln on March 22 on the road.

LIVINGSTON, Ala. The University of West Alabama softball team won two games against West Georgia (6-19, 1-5 GSC) on Friday at the UWA Softball Complex.
