Lady Cougars defeat Wildcats, Trojans

Newton County's Lady Cougars knocked off Northeast Lauderdale and Meridian in fast-pitch action Friday at Decatur.
The Lady Cougars defeated Northeast 11-1 in the opener. Joy Cavenaugh (7-3) tossed four innings of one-hit ball to get the win. Dominique Mapp had three hits, including a double and a two-run homer as Newton County improved to 9-7.
Jennifer Bristow took the loss for the Lady Trojans.
The Lady Cougars added a 5-3 victory over Meridian. Cavenaugh (8-3) again got the win, allowing seven hits to go with nine strikeouts and two walks.
Megan Munn had the game-winning RBI with a single in the fourth inning as Newton County improved to 10-7.
Ebonee Ball had a pair of singles for Meridian.
Brandi Limerick got the loss.

The Lady Raiders improved to 3-0 with their win at Waynesboro. Jasmine Harris got the slow-pitch win, allowing three hits to go with four strikeouts.
Lizzie Williams went 3-for-4 with five RBIs to lead Lamar at the plate. She had a two-run triple and a three-run homer. Holly Thrash went 3-for-4 with a triple. Bailey Barham went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple to plate a pair of runs. S.M. Mitchell had three RBIs as she went 2-for-4 with a double. Aminee Chesney went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Greenville St. Joe 1
The Lady Tornadoes routed the Greenville team Thursday to improve to 11-2 in fast-pitch action. Shanese Hunter got the win.
Brittany Hodges had a double and a single for Philadelphia, while Shelby Smith had a pair of singles.
Philadelphia scored six runs in the first inning and added seven more in the third.

Adam Simpson (3-2) got the win and had a pair of singles as Enterprise improved to 11-3.
Wade Weathers had a single to go with a pair of doubles. Scott Mosely had a double and Zeb Swain belted a home run.

The Knights won everything but girls singles against the Rockets.
West's Scott Truesdale defeated Wade Akins 6-1, 6-1 in boys singles. Nancy Siefker and Casey Hedgpeth defeated Molly Talbott and Julie Gaines 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in girls doubles. Brook Bounds and Matt Schanrock defeated Brianna Stinson and Tyler Hardy 6-0, 6-1 in mixed doubles. Eric Smith and Josh Sonak beat John Mark Kilpatrick and Zach Kilpatrick 6-0, 6-2 in boys doubles.
Neshoba's lone win came as Katie Cunningham defeated Lea Cook in girls singles 6-3, 6-0.

In boys singles, Kyle Dew defeated Jay Areenkamar 7-6, 6-4. In girls singles, Anna Allread defeated Jodi Weble 7-5, 6-1.
In boys doubles, Graham Woods and Will Compton defeated Luke Campbell and Phillip Downer 5-7, 6-3, 6-4. In girls doubles, Kortney Harris and Kelly Sterling defeated Elizabeth Tomlinson and Marlaina Berck 6-0, 6-0. And in mixed doubles, Starkville's Elizabeth Stanford and Eliot Stanford defeated Hannah Ford and Nathon Kittrell 6-1, 6-3.

The Lady Warriors got 13 hits in winning their first game in the Northeast Mississippi Community College fast-pitch tournament.
Lauren Barrett (3-4) got the win.
Obreisha Davis had three hits for ECCC. Marley Smith and Jhaun Sparnecht both had a pair of singles. Suzanne Chaney, Krissi Harris and Shelly Ferguson each had a double.
East Central 11

In taking their second game Friday, the Lady Warriors had a dozen hits. Lisa Wolf (2-0) got the win.
Kristin Chaney had three hits including a double and a triple. Davis had two hits. Ferguson had a single and a double. Harris also had a two-bagger.
