Friends, family, classmates, teammates, elected officials, local veterans and others will meet today at the Lauderdale County Courthouse to honor fallen Marine Pfc. Chris Mabry.
Mabry, 19, and a resident of southwest Lauderdale County, was killed in action in Iraq last month.
Lauderdale County supervisors unanimously voted Monday to honor Mabry in a ceremony set to begin at 3:30 p.m. at the courthouse.
A monument donated by Burton-Coley Monument Co. of Meridian will be placed on the front lawn of the courthouse near a tree donated by The Memory Tree Foundation in Mabry's honor.
Willie Schanrock, manager of T.J.'s Menswear in downtown Meridian, began organizing the Mabry memorial last month. He first asked the city for permission to put the memorial in Dumont Plaza.
Supervisors said the names of any residents killed in action in the future will be included in the monument.
