ENTERPRISE Mother nature has taken control of game one of the MHSAA Class 2A State Championship series between Enterprise and Mooreville. The game that was scheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m. was postponed due to wet conditions and was be moved to Monday at 6 p.m. at Enterprise.
Mooreville advanced to the state championship series with a 14-3 win over Hamilton on Wednesday and the break couldn't have come at a better time for the Troopers. Enterprise advanced to the series with a 9-3 win on Monday over North Forrest thanks to a great pitching performance from Wade Weathers.
Weathers pitched seven innings and tallied 15 strikeouts in the victory over the Eagles. Weathers collected a two-run home run in the game and Dennis Watson added a solo home run, as the Bulldogs pounded out 12 hits in the six-run win.
Senior Adam Simpson will take the ball in game two which will take place Tuesday at Mooreville (30-4).
Game three of the series, if necessary, will be Friday or Saturday at Smith-Wills Stadium in Jackson.
Enterprise (25-7) is making its first state championship appearance in baseball. The Bulldogs have made three previous appearances in the South State championship series, and never achieved a series win.
