GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. I rolled out of bed at about 9:30 a.m. It felt good to finally sleep in a bed and stay there. When we stopped in Hays, Kan., on Wednesday, we got in a bed and had to get right back up to get on the road.
I'm staying with Matthew Creighton (a fellow pitcher). It is nice staying with him. He's quiet and we get along. It is the first time we have ever stayed together, but it is all working out fine.
When I woke up, I walked about 15 minutes down to Denny's and spent about $10 for breakfast. It is pretty expensive, but it was good to have a nice meal.
After breakfast, I stopped by the Holiday Inn (where the headquarters for the Junior College World Series is located) and checked out all the merchandise.
I didn't get anything. I'm going to wait until my parents get here. I did make some mental notes of what I would like to get for souvenirs.
I got a wooden souvenir bat last year, and I'm thinking about getting a ball and a bat this year. I want to get everybody to sign one of the balls that has the World Series imprint on it.
We left the hotel for practice at 1:15 p.m., and we practiced at a park called Canyon View.
I wasn't able to run last year, but there wasn't much difference from practicing at Meridian. You were short-winded a little bit, but it wasn't as bad as you would expect.
It was great weather. You could feel the sun, but you didn't sweat. It was real cool and the wind was blowing. It was great to stand out there in the sun and not die out there like back home because of the humidity.
Today, almost felt like a day off. You got a good night's rest and could take your time when you woke up.
We took our team picture at Suplizio Field around 4:30 p.m., and we had the rest of the night to ourselves.
I just relaxed. I watched a little TV and played some MLB MVP on Playstation. It was a pretty laid back day.
