The 2004 summer season is now in full swing. One person is needed to fill a spot on Tuesday night and at least two bowlers are needed to fill out openings in the Senior Citizens league on Monday afternoons. Also, at least one team is needed to complete the Adult-Junior league. If you are interested in filling either of these spots or know someone who is contact Dixie Bowl.
Robby Relinski got things off to a hot start during the first week of action with a big 278 and a 249. He seemed to be on his way to an 800 series after starting the third game off with five strikes in a row when a couple of nasty single pins jumped up and bit him. Nevertheless, he ended the evening with a fine 763 series. M.A. Copeland, just back in town after competing in the ABC tournament in Reno, said it was good to be back home as he pounded out a 700 on the nose.
The first of the biweekly No Taps was held last week with Richard Pigford taking home the top spot with an 832. Richard also pounded a No-Tap 300 to earn a free entry into the next event. Robby Relinski came in second with a 770 and M.A. Copeland took the high scratch series out of the money with a 730. Remember, the No-Tap will take place every other Wednesday night during the summer at 7 p.m. The payout is 1 in 5 and the first person to shoot a 300 game earns a free entry into the next tournament. A portion of the entry fee goes to the end of season tournament in August. You must bowl in at least half of the tournaments to be eligible for the end of season tournament.
Both the men and the ladies state tournaments have completed their runs. It will be several weeks before we get the final results, but I understand that several local bowlers have performed well. I will try to keep you up to date when the results come in.
Coming later in the summer is Stan's Classic Tournaments 2nd annual Doubles Tournament. The tournament is slated to run each weekend from July 31 through Labor Day. I will have more information on this event in the coming weeks.
That's all for this week. Until next week. . . Good luck and good bowling.
