Hundreds of people attended last year's 1st Annual Clarke County MayFest, giving organizers hope that more will come and enjoy activities this year.
MayFest is set for 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the downtown Quitman Depot.
Live entertainment will perform all day on stage next to the depot offering a variety of music styles ranging from gospel to country to 1970s music.
Highlights of the day will include the summer fun parade, children's games and a variety of food prepared by local churches, the Historic Clarke County Organization and the Chamber of Commerce.
Plate lunches will be sold from the depot's kitchen, featuring barbecue pork on a bun, cole slaw, baked beans, dessert, ice tea or lemonade all for $5. Other groups will be selling hamburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, ice cream, funnel cakes and cold drinks.
The summer fun parade will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Combest said the Chamber of Commerce is encouraging citizens to get creative and decorate some type of entry that pertains to summers everything from lawn mowers to cars or trucks. Ribbons will be awarded to first place, second place, third place and most creative entries.
The highlight of MayFest will be the children's magic and ventriloquism show presented by Hal Arnold Entertainment featuring Hal "Baluni," Dobie Duck, Eddie and Laurie. The show will begin at 1 p.m.
Admission to MayFest is free and entries for the parade are still welcome. For information, call the Chamber of Commerce at 776-5701.
