Clint Hughes of Meridian graduated cum laude from the University of San Diego on May 23, earning a bachelor's degree in history.
At the University of San Diego, Hughes was a member of Phi Alpha Theta and College Republicans. Hughes plans to attend Pepperdine School of Law.
Hughes is a graduate of West Lauderdale High School. His parents are Earl and Cynthia Pitt of Meridian.
Heather Harwell of Meridian recently received a second place award at the Mississippi State Reading Fair in Jackson on May 21.
Harwell won at the school, district and regional competitions to advance to the state level. She competed in the second-grade individual category with her storyboard, "Mr. Bumble!"
Harwell attends Clarkdale Attendance Center and is the daughter of Allen and Amy Harwell.
Rayshun Hopson, Tareco Davis and Ricky Clark Jr. recently competed in the Mississippi Reading Fair. The group represented West Lauderdale School and Region 5 in Jackson on May 21, and placed first in the state.
Morgan L. McPhail of Collinsville, William B. Rutledge of Meridian and Kristy L. Irons of Philadelphia are among nearly two dozen Mississippi State University seniors inducted into the Society of Scholars in the Arts and Sciences.
The limited-membership organization annually inducts MSU's most outstanding upper-level undergraduate and graduate students in all majors.
Persons selected for the rigorous screening process must have demonstrated a sound foundation in languages, mathematics, science, oral and written communication, humanities and social sciences.
McPhail graduated summa cum laude in May with a political science degree. McPhail is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mark McPhail.
Rutledge graduated summa cum laude in May with an English degree. Rutledge is the son of William Rutledge.
Irons, graduated summa cum laude in May with an English degree. Irons is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Irons.
