PREPARING THE PARK David Riley, a city of Meridian worker, cuts grass with a weed-eater while he helps prepare Bonita Lakes Park for today's Independence Day celebration. Festivities kick off at 7 p.m. with the announcement of the G.V. "Sonny" Montgomery Patriotic Award. At 8 p.m., the Meridian Symphony Orchestra's Cellular South Pops Concert begins. The annual celebration will conclude at 9 p.m. with a fireworks display, sponsored by the city of Meridian. Shuttle service will run every 30 minutes and drop riders off free of charge at the stage and spillway area. Last shuttle to run will be at 8 p.m. You can park at the Bonita Lakes Mall main entrance.
