Jackson team takes control

The Mississippi Makos swim team of Jackson put the points on the board Saturday as they took control of the State Games of Mississippi-Meridian Invitational meet being held at Highland Park.
After 74 events, the Mississippi Makos rolled up 929 points. The Meridian Swim Association is in second with 394 points, followed by the Sunkist Swim Team of Jackson with 233, Delta Aquatic with 255, and the Vicksburg Swim Association with 252. The Laurel Swim Association follows with 119 points, while Swim Columbus has 106.
The Makos girls were the story of the meet as they turned in 538 points. Leading the way was Maggie Vaughan in the 18-and-under division, who accounted for 60 points. Teammates Kaci Bolls and Jordan Zila tallied 43 and 36 points, respectively, in the 14-and-under division. Ashley Zila and Kristen Davis gave the Makos 38 and 34 points, respectively, in the 10-and under-division.
Meridian's second place position in the standings was powered by 256 points in the male division, while the girls accounted for 138.
Aaron Ng accounted for 41 points in the boys 10 and under. Ng placed first in the 100 meter breast, the 100 meter free style, and second in the 50 meter back and the 200 meter free style.
Jacob Gray and Clayton Boyd brought in 35 and 25 points, respectively, for Meridian in the 13-14 division.
Other Meridian results included: Jacob Boyd with 36 points, Clayton Boyd with 35, Semmes Partridge with 33 points, David Meek with 33 points, Eric Duckworth with 22 points, Sam Vaughn with six points; Mary McCaleb Eifert with nine points, Savanah Boyd with 12 points, and Scott Logan with10 points,
The Vicksburg Swim Association picked up 59 points from Bern Ebersole in the 18-and-under boys division.
The meet will conclude this afternoon.
