Meridian rolls to two wins

In the 9-year-old baseball tournament in Gulfport, Meridian rolled to a pair of big wins on Friday, beating Orange Grove 13-2 and Florence 17-1.
In the win over Orange Grove, Blake Key, Tyler Germany, and Cody Andress combined on a no-hitter.
Tate Mosley had two hits, while Germany and Dillon Rivers both had a double.
In the four-inning spanking of Florence, the same three pitchers combined for a two-hitter.
Rivers had three hits, while Germany and Mosley both had two.
Meridian and Jackson were the last remaining unbeaten teams in the tournament.
12-year olds
In the 12-under Cal Ripken tournament at New Albany, Meridian knocked off Stone County 11-4 to advance to today's 5 p.m. game with Long Beach in a winners' bracket semifinal.
Meridian led 4-1 through four innings before Stone County racked up four runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead.
Meridian paraded 11 batters to the plate in the top of the sixth to score seven runs to take an 11-4 lead.
Michael Sterling closed the sixth as Meridian improved to 2-0 in the tournament.
In a total of six innings in the tournament, Witt Haggard has yet to allow a hit or a run. He tossed the first three frames, striking out five and walking three. LaColton Jackson got the win, allowing no runs in a third of an inning of relief.
Sterling had three singles, while Jackson had a pair of doubles. Mason Tabb, Joey Lawn, and Anthony Williams each had two singles with Williams also getting a double. Sam Daniel had one double.
Levon Arrington had a double for Stone County, 1-1.
