Mr. and Mrs. Rodney Reece Graves of Florence, Ala., announce the engagement of their daughter, Maurie Brown, to William Wellborn Shaw, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris Shaw Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and the late Maxine Wellborn Shaw, formerly of Atlanta.
The wedding will be Saturday, July 10, 2004, at 6:30 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Florence.
Miss Graves is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Arnold Pigford Jr. of Meridian and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reece Graves of Florence.
The bride-elect is a graduate of Coffee High School and received a bachelor's degree in advertising from the University of Alabama.
While attending the University of Alabama, she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority and has been a member of the Tri-Cities Girls' Cotillion.
Miss Graves is self-employed.
Mr. Shaw is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hugh Kirksey of Aliceville, Ala., the late Mr. and Mrs. William B. Wellborn, formerly of Atlanta, the late Robert H. Shaw of Falls Church, Va., and the late Ruth Levings Shaw of Moorhead and Mrs. Robert H. Shaw of Springfield, Va.
The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Tuscaloosa Academy and received a bachelor's degree in advertising and public relations from the University of Alabama.
While at the University of Alabama, he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity.
Mr. Shaw is employed by Axa Advisors, an investment brokerage firm in Birmingham, Ala.
A reception will be held at the home of the bride following the ceremony.
