Meridian teams ready for tourneys

Two area baseball teams will take a trip to Laurel this weekend to compete in the Dixie Pre-Majors and Dixie Majors State Tournaments.
The Meridian Pre-Majors will get their tournament underway with a contest against Southwest Mississippi today at 8:00 p.m.
The 15 &16-year-old team will then take on either Laurel-Jones County or Moss Point on Sunday night.
In other games in the tournament, Kosciusko takes on Lumberton at 12:30 p.m. Saturday and Cleveland and Lawrence County will play in the afternoon game.
All of the games in the Pre-Majors tournament will be held at Lonnie J. Hosey Field on West Drive in Laurel.
The eight teams will compete for the state championship and a chance to play in the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series which will be held in Guntersville, Ala.
In the Dixie Majors tournament, Meridian will take on Hattiesburg today at noon.
The team of 17 &18-year-olds will then play either Clarksdale or Wesson on Sunday afternoon.
Other games in the tournament include a matchup between Purvis and East Central and a game between Jackson and Laurel-Jones County.
The games will be played at Wooten-Legion Field on West Drive in Laurel.
The teams are competing for the state championship and a berth in the Dixie Majors World Series held in Monroe, La.
