State Rep. Greg Snowden has heard stories of frustration from Medicaid recipients like to Richard Salter and Lynelle Harrell two people having a tough time finding alternate medical coverage.
Snowden said some pharmaceutical companies that provide help are working more smoothly than others. Despite that, Snowden, R-Meridian, said, "I don't think it is a matter of despair."
Dr. Warren Jones, executive director of Mississippi Division of Medicaid, said his office is ready to help people find answers.
Jones said representatives from his office have held public meetings to help people receive their Medicare coverage and find patient assistance programs through pharmaceutical companies.
Jones' office is helping some Medicaid recipients on a one-on-one basis if they have been denied coverage.
He said his office plans to contract with a company so that within a few weeks, his office will be able to help match people with patient assistance programs offered by drug manufacturers.
Beginning this week, letters from Jones will be sent to Medicaid beneficiaries informing them that the division's regional offices can assist them.
The letters will be followed with phone calls offering help. Jones said anyone who is having trouble receiving Medicare coverage can contact their local Medicaid office for help.
Need help?
If you are among the thousands of people who could lose Medicaid coverage on Sept. 15, you can receive help finding alternative medical coverage by contacting the regional office of the Mississippi Division of Medicaid. The office is at 3848 Old U.S. Highway 45 North. The telephone number is 483-9944.
