All-Stars headed to regional event

The Meridian 11-year-old Cal Ripken All-Stars hope a lot of experience will help them in the upcoming Southwest Regional Tournament in Paragould, Ark.
This will be the group's third regional tournament after winning the state championship in each of the past three years. The team finished second last year in the regional.
Since there is no World Series for the 11-year-olds, the team will try to win the tournament and pick up momentum for next year's All-Star competition.
According to Johnson, going to the World Series is a goal of the players, and this year's regional tournament is a step toward that goal.
The regional tournament should be competitive with teams from Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas and Louisiana traveling to compete.
According to Johnson, having to battle back from the losers' bracket and beating Orange Grove twice in the championship of the state tournament helped the team.
Players for Meridian include Nate Fincher, Zac Johnson, Daniel Knox, E.J. Perry, Jeremy Kidd, Wes Stokes, Kasey Hinton, Tyler Stanley, Luke Stanley, Jason Yarbor, Alex Stegall, Will Abbey and Kirby Bishop.
