JA scores big win over Lamar School

JACKSON Jackson Academy ran over, around and through the visiting Raiders of Lamar School on Friday night to take a 41-7 prep football victory.
Corey McGee ran for 154 yards and Benji Maher scored two touchdowns to lead the homestanding Raiders to the victory.
JA jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back in the victory.
Jackson Academy jumped out to an early lead after forcing Lamar into a three-and-out on its first possession. After the defensive stop, JA took over the ball on its own 37 yard line and drove down the field in 11 plays.
Maher finished off the drive with a one-yard touchdown run to give the homestanding Raiders a 7-0 lead.
After another three-and-out by Lamar, JA took over one their own 30 yard line and drove for another touchdown. McGee finished off the drive with a 17-yard touchdown scamper around right end to give JA a 14-0.
After yet another three-and-out by Lamar, Jackson Academy scored its third touchdown of the quarter.
Adam Shaffer hit Maher down the middle of the field for a 43-yard touchdown pass on JA's first play from scrimmage to stretch the lead to 21-0.
Lamar was able to drive down to the JA 10 yard line on its next possession but turned the ball over on downs to stall the drive.
JA responded with a drive of its own, but Daniel Bennett picked off a pass in the end zone to end the JA threat.
Lamar took the momentum from the turnover and drove down the field on six plays to get into the end zone.
Scott Owen hit Dustin Gray on a 28-yard touchdown pass to make the score 21-7 with 2:55 left in the first half.
JA drove down the field in the final three minutes to stretch the lead at the half.
Shaffer hit Maher for a 29-yard pass to move into Lamar territory. Shaffer later found tight end Martin Miller in the end zone to give JA a 27-7 lead at half.
Jackson Academy continued to move the ball in the second half. The homestanding Raiders marched down the field on 11 plays and McGee scored on a one-yard run to make the score 34-7.
Nathan Jew scored the final touchdown for JA as he went around the left end for a 6-yard touchdown to give Jackson Academy a 41-7 lead with 8:40 left to play in the game.
Lamar drops to 1-3 for the season with the loss. The Raiders will get back into MPSA Class AAA play next week as they host Parklane Academy on Friday night.
