McCoy's block saves the day for Heidelberg in win over Clarkdale

Heidelberg High School held off a strong charge from Clarkdale on Friday night to pick up a 14-13 victory over the Bulldogs.
Heidelberg jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter.
Kendall Cooper scored on a three-yard run and Rapheal Jones ran in the two-point conversion. Three minutes later, Aaron Tarver scored on a 36-yard run to make the score 14-0.
Heidelberg blocked a 20-yard field goal attempt in the half. Clarkdale also broke open a 60-yard run in the half but fumbled the ball away at the one-yard line at the end of the play.
Clarkdale made a charge in the second half as it scored on a six-yard touchdown pass from Blake Johnson to Michael Steele.
Jack Norton hit Chris Sirvin with a five-yard touchdown pass to help the Bulldogs cut the lead to one point with 1:41 left in the game, but Brad McCoy blocked the extra point to help Heidelberg hold the 14-13 lead.
Clarkdale was able to recover the onside kick on the ensuing kickoff but the Oiler defense was able to hold the Bulldogs to pick up the win.
Tarver finished the game with 73 yards on eight carries for the Oilers while McCoy had 11 tackles to lead the Heidelberg defense.
The Oilers, now 3-2, will travel to take on Seminary next week.

Kemper County 0
The Newton Tigers got their first win the season with a 20-0 homecoming victory over Kemper County.
Newton, 1-4 and 1-0 in 5-2A, got on the board in the first quarter as Courtney Ruffin hit Kolby Tillman on a 25-yard pass. The PAT failed and Newton led 6-0 going into the half.
The Tigers went up 12-0 in the third when Jamie Lay broke through the line for a 45-yard run.
Newton's last score came late in the fourth as Ruffin hit Montez Moore on a 30-yard completion. Lay made it 20-0 on the two-point run.
Newton returns to 5-2A play next week when they host division favorite Philadelphia at E.L. Morgan Field.

Enterprise 48
Lake 32
Enterprise outscored Lake in an offensive battle on Friday night to pick up a 48-32 victory.
The Bulldogs scored on a one-yard run by Curtis Latney in the first quarter and added a touchdown on a 16-yard run by Barron Blackwell later in the quarter.
Latney scored on a seven-yard run in the second quarter for Enterprise and Ike McKelvain had a three-yard touchdown run to give the Bulldogs a 27-21 lead at half.
Wade Weathers hit Blackwell for a 45-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
Weathers added a one-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter and Latney scored on a two-yard run in the final quarter to help Enterprise pick up the 48-32 win.

South Choctaw Academy jumped out to a big lead and rolled past West Alabama Prep on Friday night.
SCA scored on a safety with 5:16 left in the first quarter and scored on a 37-yard touchdown run by Logan Johnson in the second quarter.
After another safety, SCA scored on a 17-yard touchdown pass from Josh Adams to Justin Mason to make the score 19-0 at half. South Choctaw added a touchdown on an eight-yard run by Dusty Welford in the third quarter to secure the win.

Union 40
Pelahatchie 20
Union continued its winning season on Friday night with a 40-20 victory over Pelahatchie.
The Yellow Jackets improved to 5-0 with the victory.
Dyas Bedford put Pelahatchie out front in the first quarter but Union answered with a two-yard touchdown run by Jess Brantley.
Anthony Johnson added a 21-yard touchdown run in the second quarter and Jacob Casey threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Kenny Slaughter to stretch the lead to 21-7 at half.
The Yellow Jackets added a nine-yard touchdown run by Johnson in the third quarter.
Pelahatchie answered with a 57-yard touchdown run by Quincy Beeman, but Union got a 58-yard touchdown run by Casey to extend its lead to 34-13 at the end of the third quarter.
Brantley scored on another two-yard run to stretch the lead to 40-13 in the fourth quarter.
Pelahatchie scored on a three-yard run by Beeman but lost the game 40-20.
Johnson finished with 134 yards rushing and recorded 11 tackles for Union. Casey added 88 yards passing and 63 yards rushing for the Yellow Jackets.
