St. Joseph's church hosts Octoberfest

For more than 20 years, parishioners of St. Joseph's Catholic Church have gathered together in October to enjoy fellowship, food and fun.
The tradition continues Saturday when the church, at 1914 18th Ave., will host its Octoberfest from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Mosley said the Octoberfest tradition was started more than two decades ago by the church's former priest, the Rev. John C. Kersten. The event raises money that will help fund community service projects.
New this year at Octoberfest is a voter registration booth.
Activities for children will include face painting, a cake walk and a go-fish booth. Tickets are 25 cents each.
There also will be plenty of food. Fish plates will be sold for $5 and rib plates for $7.
St. Joseph's men's organization, the Knights of Peter Claver, and the ladies hospitality committee will prepare the food.
There also will be a country store featuring homemade items such as cakes, cookies, pies and pear preserves.
