WAYNESBORO Lamar scored on every possession except its last on Friday night in a 58-8 victory over Wayne Academy.
The Raiders moved the ball down the field at will and blasted the Jaguars.
"We just played super tonight," said Lamar coach Mac Barnes. "We have been talking about playing 48 minutes and we came close tonight. This was far and away the most consistent game we've had."
Lamar jumped out front on its first possession of the game using the run. The Raiders moved down the field on 12 plays and scored on a one-yard run by Scott Owen with 8:11 left in the first quarter. Matt Owen made the score 7-0 with the PAT.
After holding the Wayne Academy offense, Lamar scored quickly to extend its lead.
Lamar opened the possession with a holding penalty but Scott Owen hit Dustin Gray with a pass on the next play for a 67-yard touchdown to make the score 14-0.
The Raiders came through with a big special teams play on the next possession. Wayne Academy's punt was blocked by Paul Mayfield and Alston Rush fell on the ball at the Jaguar eight-yard line.
Lamar scored on its first play as Owen hit Dustin Rivers with a touchdown pass to make the score 21-0 with 3:19 left in the first quarter.
Wayne Academy finally answered with a touchdown drive. Colby Beasley hit Greg Kirkland with a 43-yard pass to set up a five-yard touchdown run by Brett Coxwell. Beasley then hit Clarke Joiner with the two-point conversion.
Lamar answered with another quick strike. Gray got behind the defense again and Owen hit him with a 45-yard touchdown pass to make the score 27-8.
"They did some defensive things early that we weren't ready for so we basically said what we are going to do is beat them deep," said Barnes. "I think that really loosened it up for us."
Wayne fumbled the ensuing kickoff and Rivers recovered to give Lamar another scoring chance.
The Raiders capitalized five plays later as Jeff Parke scored on a five-yard run to make the score 34-8 with 10:04 left in the first half.
After forcing Wayne to punt, Lamar took over at its own 23-yard line and went on a 17-play drive to scored before half.
Matt Owen hit a 28-yard field goal with 1:25 left in the half to give Lamar a 37-8 lead going into the break.
The scoring continued for Lamar in the second half. Parker Payne carried the ball five times for the Raiders and scored on a one-yard touchdown run to give Lamar a 44-8 lead.
Reauze Cole picked off a pass for Lamar on Wayne's next possession to set up another Raider touchdown.
Daniel Bennett scored on a 17-yard run four plays later to make the score 51-8 with 4:44 left in the third quarter.
Lamar added another touchdown in the fourth quarter as Nathan Harrison scored on a 38-yard touchdown run to make the final score 58-8.
Owen finished the night 8-for-12 for 194 yards passing. Gray had 141 yards receiving and Payne and Parke each had 50 yards rushing for the Raiders.
Lamar, now 4-3, will take on Presbyterian Christian next week in Hattiesburg. Wayne drops to 6-2 for the season and will travel to take on Newton County Academy.
