An involved search for a missing Phil Campbell man came to a happy ending early Thursday morning.
Franklin County Sheriff Larry Plott said his department received a call Wednesday night around 7 p.m. that Vance Reese Black of Phil Campbell was missing.
Black, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, had been last seen in front of his home on a motorized wheelchair.
Plott said his officers called the rescue squad and began a search of the surrounding area.
Plott said around 4 a.m., the search party was about to suspend the effort until daylight.
Plott said it appeared Black had been out riding in his motorized chair when he had some problem with the chair and lost control of it. Black was not injured except for some minor abrasions and Plott said he was in good spirits when he was found.
Plott thanked the many private citizen volunteers, the Phil Campbell police, the Phil Campbell fire department, several local volunteer fire departments, Medflight, the state troopers aviation division and anyone else who helped in the search.
