Both the Meridian Christian Home Educators and the Meridian Homeschool Learning Co-op sponsor several events for homeschool children that are similar to public or private school activities.
Trish Drinkwater, who coordinates the Meridian Christian Home Educators with her husband, said the organization holds a formal banquet each spring in which students bring dates and dress formally like a prom.
Jennifer Williams, who directs the Meridian Homeschool Learning Co-op with her husband, said her group hosts an end-of-the-school year celebration that includes a talent show and a play.
The organization does not, however, have a spring dance or a prom.
Williams said her group has no senior homeschool students so they won't hold a formal graduation ceremony until the 2005-2006 school year.
Drinkwater said her organization holds graduation ceremonies each spring.
Besides the formal banquet, Drinkwater said her group has other activities that include a father-daughter dance and a Thanksgiving feast. Students also participate in group service projects, go ice skating and stage plays.
Williams said students from her organization also participate in community activities like adopt-a-grandparent. She said students visit a resident of King's Daughters &Sons Rest Home once a month to learn how to interact with the elderly.
