Dr. and Mrs. Louis Albuja of Quito, Ecuador, announce the engagement of their daughter, Lorena, to Christopher Thomas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Felipe Thomas of Meridian.
The wedding will be Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at 11:30 a.m. in Quito.
Miss Albuja is the granddaughter of the late Antonio Merizalde and Josefina Pavon, and the late Alfonso Albuja and Judith Viteri of Quito.
The bride-elect is a graduate of San Francisco De Sales. She is a summa cum laude graduate of Escuela Politecnica Nacional receiving a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering and a master's degree in environmental science and technology. She received a scholarship grant from the Foundation of Science and Technology, and from the government of Quito to attend graduate school at Mississippi State University. She earned a master's degree in food science technology from MSU.
While attending Excuela Politecnica Nacional, she was the academic vice president of The Chemical Student Association.
Miss Albuja is employed by Esuela Politecnica National in Quito.
Mr. Thomas is the grandson of the late Conrado Junsay and Salome Diego of Hayward, Calif., and the late H.V. Thomas Sr. and Purificacion Villar of Albay, Philippines.
The bridegroom-elect is a graduate of Meridian High School and received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State University.
While attending MSU, he was a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
Mr. Thomas is employed by Weyerhauser in Columbus.
Friends held a reception in honor of the bridegroom-elect at Crescent City Grill.
A reception will be held at Villa Trecase in Quito, Ecuador, following the ceremony.
Formal invitations were sent to family and friends in the United States and abroad.
