It's that time of year again — fall is in the air, there's only a month until Thanksgiving and only a week before Halloween, and activities are in full swing all around Franklin County.
As in past years, several local churches have planned fall festivals and other activities to celebrate this time of year.
Since Halloween coincides with Sunday night church services this year, most churches are using Oct. 30 as a day to hold events for children. Cities around the county have also set aside Oct. 30 as the "official" day for trick-or-treating activities.
Many churches set the activities up in a carnival-like setting and provide plenty of snacks and finger foods.
The festivals provide a fun and safe way for children of all ages, from pre-school to middle school age, to participate in a variety of different fun activities.
They offer a wide range of games and contests, usually providing prizes to the winners.
The games are not just for the kids, however. Cakewalks are always a favorite of the adults.
Southside Baptist in Russellville will be holding its fall festival for Saturday from 6-8 p.m.
On Oct. 30, they will be hosting a "trunk and treat" where kids can collect their candy all at one location.
The way the event works, church members will load the trunks of their cars with candy and the children can do their trick-or-treating in one safe area.
First Baptist in Russellville is one of several churches who will be holding their fall festivals on Oct. 30. Calvary Baptist will have its festival on Nov. 6.
