RMS football drops pair to Florence in finale

The Russellville Middle School football team concluded its season on Tuesday at Florence, falling to the Falcons 28-0 in the seventh-grade game and 24-8 in the eighth-grade game.
The RMS seventh-graders finished the season 0-4, and the eighth-grade team was 3-3.
In the eighth-grade game, Florence scored in the first quarter on a 38-yard pass, and the two-point conversion made it 8-0.
Russellville answered with a 3-yard touchdown run by Jake Ward, and the two-point try tied the game.
Florence scored on its next possession on a 45-yard run, and the try for two was good to make it 16-8 at the half.
The Falcons scored their final touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 13-yard run and then added the two-point conversion to take a 24-8 lead.
Everybody we played was good. We did not play the Deshler game because of Hurricane Ivan, and they were good this year. We didn't have the fastest or the most athletic team, but we had the best group of kids I've ever had.
