Folsom Gets Biggest Vote in County
Gov.-Elect James E. Folsom is Franklin County's boy….
At least that's what the official results of the Nov. 2 election showed this week after returns were certified at the Courthouse.
Gov.-Elect Folsom proved the biggest attraction in general election balloting as he drew 3,885 votes in Franklin County–the most of any candidate –and won by the second-largest margin, 1,891 votes.
Sen. A.W. Todd, who was elected commissioner of agriculture and industries, won by the largest margin–1,928 votes–and came in second only to the governor-elect with a total vote of 3,851.
Phone Directory Will Boast of 'New Look'
A new telephone directory for Russellville and Red Bay, boasting a "new look," is out.
The "Spirit of Communications," which has graced the covers of Southern Bell Telephone Company directories for 16 years, is missing.
Replacing it is an illustration of a comely young woman wearing an eye-catching yellow scarf calling long distance. The caption beneath is "It Means So Much to Keep in Touch."
Delivery of approximately 1,960 copies of the new telephone book to Russellville subscribers will be completed this week, according to J.B. King, local Southern Bell manager.
Franklin's R.E. Nix is 'Mr. DAV' of Alabama
A Franklin Countian Sunday will be awarded a plaque as "Mr. DAV of Alabama" for more than 30 years distinguished service for Disabled American Veterans.
He is R.E. Nix, resident here more than 30 years and national deputy chief of staff for DAV, who will receive the award at the DAV Home on Railroad Avenue in Decatur Sunday, November 14, at 1:30 p.m.
The presentation will be made by H. Neil Taylor, commander, Alabama Department of DAV. Mr. Taylor is Franklin County Solicitor.
City May Obtain New Yule Lighting
The Chamber of Commerce Tuesday night suggested to its Board of Directors that efforts be made to obtain new Christmas lights for Russellville this year.
It was pointed out that the new whiteway lights will kill the effect of lights in previous years and that new ones are needed for the holiday season.
The Chamber also voted to again hold a Christmas decoration contest, with prizes for the best-decorated business firms and residences.
