Our View – Remember to shop at home for the 2004 holidays

By Staff
As hard as it might be for us to believe, the holiday shopping season is here.
Next week, the days after Thanksgiving will mark the biggest shopping days of the year for some merchants and officially kick-off the Christmas buying season.
When you begin making your lists of shopping targets, don't forget about our merchants here in Franklin County.
Just about everything on your list can be purchased here at home.
Remember, tax dollars that leave the county benefit other schools, other cities, other citizens.
Franklin County merchants are excited about the holidays. There are a variety of stores and speciality shops that can meet 'most any need you have on your Christmas shopping list.
Marketing analysis shows that every dollar spent in an area is passed around an average of five times before it leaves. That means the dollar you spend for food might be given in change and used to make a purchase at another local store.
But dollars spent in the Shoals or Huntsville are gone forever, not helping Franklin County at all.
Franklin County residents take pride in our stores, our citizens, and our schools.
Another way to show pride in those things is to demonstrate loyalty to your hometown and spend your holiday shopping budget here.
That tax money you pay might be the difference in a capital improvement project or new textbooks for our students.
Enjoy the holidays and try not to get stressed out over shopping. But when you do get around to your Christmas shopping, remember to do it here in Franklin County. It helps all of us!
