RED BAY - Chasity Morgan scored a team-high 15 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with just less than two minutes remaining, to lead East Franklin past Phil Campbell 34-29 on Thursday in junior girls action at the Franklin County Tournament.
The Lady Bobcats, thanks in large part to 19 points from Kaitlin Stancil, were leading 29-28 when Morgan drained her second three of the game to put East Franklin on top by two.
The Lady Bobcats had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead with 12 seconds remaining when Phil Campbell coach Michael Beck was hit with a pair of technical fouls and ejected from the game for arguing with the officials.
Afterwards, an apologetic Beck explained what transpired.
Beck received the first technical for that exchange, and then got a second from another official after tossing his clipboard to the floor a little too forcefully for the official's liking.
Morgan shot all four technical free throws, making two to push East Franklin's lead to 33-29.
The Lady Rebels were then awarded possession, and Morgan made another free throw with 10 seconds left to provide the final margin.
Kayla Herring scored 12 points in the first half for East Franklin, but Stancil countered with 11 for Phil Campbell as the Lady Bobcats went into the break with a 19-18 lead.
Both teams struggled to score in the third quarter. East Franklin's only basket was a three-pointer by Morgan. Phil Campbell managed just four points, two each from Stancil and Ashley Macalister, but still led 23-21 heading to the fourth quarter.
Herring finished with 13 points for the Lady Rebels, and Allissa Smith added four.
Macalister had nine points for Phil Campbell.
East Franklin advanced to face Red Bay on Saturday at 3:45 p.m.
