With the grand opening of Peebles in Russellville Marketplace on Wednesday, Sept. 20, Franklin area residents will have a new place to shop.
Russellville Marketplace is located in the old Wal-Mart building on U.S. 43. The store will open with a five-day celebration, according to manager Rita Adams.
"The first 150 customers who arrive at the store on the 20th and the 21st will receive free gifts," Adams said. "Wednesday's gift will be a canvas tote bag, and Thursday's will be a coordinating, compact umbrella. Customers can also register to win one of three $500 gift cards."
On opening day, shoppers will receive a 15 percent storewide discount. Peebles is a national chain that offers name-brand apparel, as well as shoes, accessories, jewelry and home gifts.
"Shoppers will be able to find their favorite brand names, such as Izod, Reebok, Liz Claiborne, Levi's, Nike and many more," Adams said. "We're a smaller version of a full-scale department store. Now people in the area won't have to drive all the way to Florence to get the brands they need."
Adams encouraged local shoppers to look into Peebles' store branded credit card, which provides additional savings and bonuses.
Adams, a Georgia native, comes to the Russellville store from the Peebles in Bremen, Ga., where she was assistant manager.
"We love small towns," Adams said. "The first Peebles store was located in a small town in Virginia. This company is 114 years old. It started in a small town, and that's the market we go for."
Adams said that she was delighted to be living in the area.
"I love Russellville," Adams said. "The town I'm from, Bremen, is actually smaller than Russellville. This is like a huge city to me."
Approximately 15 to 20 people will be employed at Peebles, Adams said. The Russellville store is one of 20 Peebles locations in Alabama. Stage Stores Inc., the parent company of Peebles, operates more than 600 stores in 31 states.
Russellville Marketplace will contain several other new businesses, including a Burks outlet store and a Hibbett Sports store.
