Malone and Burns Facing Run-Off
Russelville Mayor Hayes Malone and Dr. J.D. Burns will run off a five-vote difference in last Monday's city election when they emerged victors in a five-man race.
The run-off will be Monday, Sept. 24.
Mayor Malone polled 905 votes to Dr. Burns' 900 in close balloting all the way. Each carried two boxes.
Dr. Burns carried the Courthouse and Coca-Cola boxes while Mayor Malone out-polled him in the Grammar School and Canteen boxes.
In the City Council race, Thomas B. (Mac) McAlister, F.J. Weatherford, Jr., N.J. Sibley, Jim Sanders and Clarence Hovater emerged winners from a 22-man field.
Pinion Re-Elected at Phil Campbell
Mayor S.C. Pinion was re-elected mayor here Monday without opposition in the Phil Campbell city election.
A total of 111 votes were cast with Mayor Pinion receiving 107.
For City Council, Phil Campbell voters chose Melvin Nix, Hubert Brown, Clyde Southern, E.M. Martin and A.C. (Jack) Moore while Melvin Mays was loser.
Two Autos Stolen in Russellville
An automobile, the second in a matter of three days, was stolen in Russellville, Monday, September 17. Police saw no connection between the two thefts.
The car stolen Monday was a black four-door Chevrolet sedan, with license number 33-2086. It was owned by Floyd Russell and was stolen from in front of Logan's Drug Store, where Mr. Russell's wife had left it parked with the keys in it.
The Friday night theft was a 1951 Pontiac. It was found by police Saturday morning abandoned in the KP cemetery.
Countian New Poultry Specialist at Auburn
Appointment of Austin Ezzell, former Franklin Countian, as API Extension Service specialist in poultry marketing was announced here today by Extension Director P.O. Davis.
He said the new post was created in recognition of an increasing need for Extension help in all phases of Alabama's growing poultry industry.
Ezzell is a 1948 graduate of API.
