A Russellville High School Senior placed in the top 12 and was given the title Miss Photogenic at the Miss Alabama Teen USA pageant, held in Birmingham, Sept. 30.
Madeline Mitchell was among 34 contestants to compete for the title of Miss Alabama Teen USA. She began entering pageants in the 5th grade and aspires to become Miss Teen USA or Miss USA someday.
"I am going to be in pageants as long as I can," Mitchell said.
Pageant contestants were judged on three areas: evening gown, swimsuit and interview. There was no talent event in this particular pageant even though Mitchell has performed in talent segments in other pageants.
"My talent is singing. I usually sing something upbeat so that I can dance and sing and have a good time," Mitchell said.
The 17-year-old also models and is represented by the Edge Model Management in Atlanta, Ga. She hopes to do more modeling in the future but realizes the value of a good education. Mitchell plans to attend the University of Alabama next fall to become a pharmacist.
"I know that you can't be a model forever, and I want something good to fall back on later," Mitchell said.
In addition to pageants, Mitchell is head cheerleader at RHS and also serves as secretary for Mu Alpha Theta, a math organization at RHS, and president of Family Community &Career Leaders of America (FCCLA). She is also employed part time at Taylor's Restaurant in Russellville.
Her parents are John and Suzanne Mitchell, of Russellville and she has one younger brother, Caleb, 16, who also attends RHS.
