A Franklin County man sits in a Jackson, Miss jail today, awaiting extradition back to Russellville to face several wrongful death and drug charges.
Jason Duane Jones, 27, of Phil Campbell was arrested by Mississippi law enforcement last week after being indicted by a grand jury on murder, felony murder and manslaughter charges in connection with the death of Julie Black, 24, in July 2005.
Jones also faces charges of conspiracy to commit a controlled substance and unlawful distribution of a controlled substance.
Jones told investigators he injected the drugs and led police to their apartment where more drugs and paraphernalia were found.
The charges allege that Jones injected Black, who was a diabetic, with methamphetamine just days after her blood sugar reached critically low levels. Jones also admitted to injecting Black with insulin and toxicology reports indicated the amount of drugs and insulin found in Black's system was at least a contributing factor in her death.
Jones has signed extradition papers and is expected to be handed over to Franklin County law enforcement today.
