Sophomores Haley Booker and Raven Wynn came through in the clutch for Northwest-Shoals en route to the Lady Patriots' eighth Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) state championship title in the past 10 years.
The Lady Patriots (36-7 overall, 16-0 conference) capped a perfect conference season by defeating Gadsden State three games to one in the ACCC Championship.
Playing on their home court, the Lady Patriots lost the first game of the championship match 28-30 only to storm back to win three straight games (30-10, 30-23, 30-28).
In the final game against Gadsden State and facing a 22-11 deficit, Booker scored nine consecutive service points and Wynn recorded five kills to spark the Lady Patriots to a 30-28 win.
Northwest-Shoals will now represent the state at the national tournament on November 20-22 in West Pains, MO.
According to coach Angie Byrd, the Lady Patriots are anxious to get to the national tournament.
"We're really excited about going to the national tournament," Byrd said. "The way the girls are playing right now, we should be able to do some damage."
Wynn, Jordan Kent and Booker were named to the all-tournament team. Sade` Oates was named tournament Most Valuable Player, while Byrd was named ACCC coach of the year.
