The Franklin County Relay For Life committee has begun planning this year's Relay for Life event, slated for May 4, 2007.
There will be a team captain meeting with the committee prior to the Kick-Off celebration scheduled for January 23, 2007.
Details for the kick off event are currently being planned and will be announced at a later date. Anyone who wishes to organize a team for this year's event is encouraged to do so, Beth Faulkner, director for the American Cancer Society (ACS), said.
Franklin County's Relay for Life has raised $231,025 in the past two years for the ACS. The money raised goes to help fight cancer by funding cancer research, and other ACS programs including cancer support groups, Faulkner said.
In addition to Relay for Life, the ACS has other fundraisers through out the year. Country music singer Gene Watson will be in concert tomorrow night at the Florence-Lauderdale Coliseum located at 702 Veteran Drive in Florence.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. and will include performances from Watson, Christa and Milton Wooldridge. Advanced tickets are $20 and $25 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased by contacting the ACS office by calling 256-767-0825, according to advertisements for the show.
Texas-native Watson is known for his Love in the Hot Afternoon and Fourteen Carat Mind.
