Local teams open play Monday in TD Classic

The 2006 TimesDaily Classic varsity boys basketball tournament will tip off on Monday with action featuring eight teams at each of two different sites.
At Russellville High School, Colbert County rivals Cherokee and Colbert Heights will get things started at 3:30 p.m.
The first Franklin County team is scheduled to tip off at 5 p.m. when Phil Campbell takes the court against Class 6A Florence.
Brooks and Sheffield will follow at 6:30 p.m., and opening-day action at Russellville will conclude with the host Golden Tigers taking on Class 1A Hazlewood at 8 p.m.
Four games will also be played on Monday at Muscle Shoals High School.
Deshler and Mars Hill will tip things off at 3:30 p.m.
The third and final Franklin County team in the field will take the court at 5 p.m. as Class 1A Belgreen matches up with Rogers.
At 6:30 p.m., a pair of Class 4A rivals will square off when Haleyville and Central-Florence take the floor.
Finally, opening-day action at Muscle Shoals will wind down when the host Trojans face off with intra-county rival Colbert County at 8 p.m.
Action will continue at both sites with quarterfinal matchups on Tuesday scheduled for 6:30 and 8 p.m.
After a break on Wednesday, the tournament resumes on Thursday with a pair of semifinal games scheduled for 6:30 and 8 p.m. at Flowers Hall on the campus of the University of North Alabama.
The 2006 TimesDaily Classic champion will be crowned on Friday night, with the title game scheduled for 7 p.m. at Flowers Hall on UNA's campus.
