Brownie Scott

Brownie Scott, age 72, of Hodges, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007.
Mr. Scott was a native of Hodges and a member of Gravel Hill Baptist Church. He was a retired cattle farmer. He was an active member of the Franklin County Republican Party and was the Chairman of the Board of Registrars for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Eva Grissom Scott; and a grandson, Will Scott. Mr. Scott was the grandson of Calvin S. and Mary Baksdale Scott. He was the great-grandson of David B. and Millie Sullivan Scott and the great-great-grandson of Joel M. and Millesa Randolph Scott.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. James Nichols officiating. Interment will be in Scott Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Frank Mitchell, David Scott, Ronald Scott, Greg Farris, Casey Cooper and Tony Feltman.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife of 44 years, Julia West Scott of Hodges; a son, Timothy Scott and wife Cynthia, of Phil Campbell; a daughter, Beverly Scott of Russellville; two sisters, Marjorie Haithcock of Hodges, and Brenda Hardin and husband James, of Hodges; two grandchildren, Lauren Scott and Brooks Scott; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley Ann Griffin

Shirley Ann Griffin, age 58, of Haleyville, passed away Wednesday, January 17, 2007, at ECM Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2007, at Old Trinity Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Greg Chappell officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery.
Mrs. Griffin is survived by her husband, Billy C. Griffin; two sons, Franklin C. Griffin and William C. Griffin and wife Ann, of Memphis, TN; two daughters, Tammy Y. Nichols and husband Tim, of Bartlett, TN, and Cynthia A. Godsey and husband David, of Russellville; one brother, David Arthur Cowart of Haleyville; one sister, Viva Jean Harrison of Haleyville; and six grandchildren, T.J., Holly, Travis, Justin, Taylor and Hunter.

James Richard Smith, Jr.
January 15, 2007
James Richard Smith, Jr., age 80, of Haleyville, passed away Monday, January 15, 2007, at Lakeland Community Hospital.
Mr. Smith was a member of Ninth Avenue Church of Christ. He was retired from the real estate investment business and served the United States Navy during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Richard Smith, Sr. and Jesse Pearl Petree Smith; his wife, Faye Merner Smith; and three brothers, Kermit Smith, Odell Smith and Alden Smith.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2007, at Pinkard Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Cooley officiating.
Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters, Kathy Smith Shyver, Karen Smith Roberson and Tammy Smith Tidwell, all of Haleyville; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Howell of Haleyville; five grandchildren, Susanna Shyver Kirby, Zachary Roberson, and Heath, Wade and Shane Tidwell; one great-grandchild, Kameron Kirby; and a special friend, Olga Mitchell and her family.
