Red Bay rallies past Mars Hill for key area win

Red Bay's girls used a stout defensive effort in the fourth quarter on Tuesday to remain unbeaten in January, rallying past No. 7 Mars Hill for a 38-35 win.
The Lady Tigers (15-7 overall, 4-1 in Class 2A, Area 16) improved to 5-0 in 2007 and kept alive their hopes of hosting the area tournament.
If Red Bay wins its lone remaining area game against Cherokee, the Lady Tigers will tie Mars Hill (18-8, 5-1) for first place in the area and a coin flip will decide who hosts the tournament.
Red Bay trailed by seven after three quarters on Tuesday before out-scoring the Lady Panthers 15-5 in the fourth quarter.
Brittany Scott had 14 points to lead the Lady Tigers, and Chelsey McWilliams added eight.
Sarabeth Little led Mars Hill with 14 points.

Chasity Morgan had 21 points and Caitlin Stancil added 14 to lead the Lady Bobcats (9-14) in Tuesday's road win.

A fast start fizzled for the Tigers on Tuesday as Mars Hill clinched the Class 2A, Area 16 championship.
Red Bay (8-11, 1-4 area) led 21-17 after one quarter, but the Tigers managed just 18 points the rest of the game.
Mars Hill (15-9, 5-1) led by two before out-scoring Red Bay 12-2 in the fourth quarter.
Grant Fancher led the Tigers with 11 points. Ethan Davis added eight, and Justin Page had seven.
Garrett Turner led Mars Hill with 15 points.
Colbert Heights 78 Phil Campbell 54
The Wildcats (6-12) out-scored Phil Campbell 31-11 in the fourth quarter to pull away in Tuesday's win.
Tanner Maddox led the Bobcats (10-12) with 15 points, and Caleb Thompson added 11.
Daniel Berry led Colbert Heights with 26 points. Jacob Walker added 15, and Justin Barnes had 13.
Shoals Christian 69 Vina 37
The Flame improved to 7-1 in Class 1A, Area 16 play with Tuesday's win.
Daniel Almon had 14 points to lead Shoals Christian (10-13 overall). Ben Kahler and Taylor Pickens each added 10.
Morgan McCarley led Vina (6-15) with 11 points, and Anthony Hester added nine.
Shoals Christian led 19-6 after one quarter and 38-14 at the half.
