Russellville High School's Tiger Stadium will once again host the Alabama Battle of the Brass Drum and Bugle Corp Show this summer.
"We hosted a show last summer, and we wanted to let everyone know that we are going to host another show this year," Gary McNutt, assistant RHS band director, said.
The coming performance is apart of the Drum Corp International's Summer Music Games, and will include "The Cadets" from Allentown, Penn, "Spirit of JSU" from Jacksonville, Ala., "Boston Crusaders" from Boston, Mass., "Carolina Crown" from Ft. Mill, SC, and "Teal Sound" from Jacksonville, Fla.
These five drum and bugle corps, along with many others, will tour the United States this summer, and compete.
The final competition will be held at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. in August.
This is the second year the show has come to Russellville. The RHS Band Parent Association and the Friends of Spirit are co-sponsoring the event here in Russellville, McNutt said.
"The band parents are beginning to sell ads for the show's program," McNutt said.
The event in Russellville will be held on Monday, June 25. For more information about the competition, log onto www.russellvilleband.com or www.dci.org/calendar
In the spirit of competition
Three Franklin County high schools will compete in the Alabama Scholastic Competition Association (ASCA), District High School Scholar's Bowl competition next week.
Northwest-Shoals Community College's Phil Campbell campus will host the event Feb. 16.
The tournament will consist of 15 high schools in Northwest Alabama competing against each other to earn the chance at competing in the Regional and State Tournaments to be later this spring.
The 15 schools competing are as follows:
1) Deshler High School
2) East Lawrence High School
3) Florence High School
4) Red Bay High School
5) Wilson High School

10) Russellville High School
11) Sheffield High School
12) Shoals Christian High School

Teams will be randomly grouped into three pools for round robin play. The winner and runner-up from each pool will advance to the regional competition to be held on March 10, 2007.
The regional tournament will have 16 teams to advance to the State Tournament April 13-14. The 16 teams will then be divided into two random pools of eight. The top two teams from each pool play a single-elimination tournament to determine the champion and the three runners-up.
