Tim Taylor was recognized as the East Franklin Firefighter of the Year for his service in the department during 2006 at the department's banquet Saturday night.
Taylor has served as a volunteer firefighter for six years.
In addition to Taylor's award, Fire Chief Rodney Alexander recognized last year's Firefighter of the Year recipient, Gene Weeks.
"We got really busy last spring and weren't able to hold our banquet, so we want to recognize Gene for being selected as the 2005 Firefighter of the Year," Alexander said during the presentation.
Weeks has been apart of the fire department since its infancy because his father, Alton, took him to meetings, fundraisers and other events while he was growing up.
"One time we were called out and I had Gene with me…I took him to the fire, and had an older child watch him in the car," Alton recalled.
The fire department also recognized firefighter Arvil Byrd for his many years of service to the department.
Byrd began his work with the fire department in 1987, and has been an asset Alexander added.
"When we need something done or fixed, he [Byrd] is always willing to help."
The East Franklin Fire Department is a 28-member team that serves the east side of the county. None of their firefighters are paid for their service to the community.
"I always joke that I can double my salary anytime I want," Weeks joked. "Nothing times two is still zero."
