The Russellville Golden Tigers this week had an up and down experience as they won on the road and lost at home. On Tuesday against Deshler at the Tennessee Valley Country Club in Tuscumbia the RHS Black squad shot 151 to easily beat the Deshler Tigers at 162 and the RHS Gold team at 188.
It was a different story on Thursday at the home course at Twin Pines Country Club as the Golden Tiger Black squad shot 168 to lose a tri-match to Red Bay's Orange squad (160) and Shoals Christian (164). RHS Gold scored 204 and Red Blue shot 232 to close out the scoring for the day.
After the Deshler match, Coach Phil Phillips was upbeat about his team's performance. "We had a pretty good day. The Gold squad had their best match so far, and the Black team also posted a good score. It was good to see Brian Brown bounce back after his play at Moulton. Brownie was down after that tournament, and for us to do well Brian has got to play well and he has for the most part."
Against Deshler Brian Brown shot 36 to lead RHS Black followed closely by John Seal and Brett Fish at 37. T. J. Seagraves at 41 and Trea Mosley at 44 finished the scoring for Russellville Black.
For the RHS Gold team, Ty Trapp at 45 and Nick Ross and Alex Pounders at 46 led the way. Taylor Reeps at 51 and Cody Bragwell at 64 contributed to the effort for the Gold team.
Neither Russellville squad scored well on a cold and windy Thursday at Twin Pines as both squads failed to prevail against the visitors. Brian Brown again was the low scorer for the Golden Tiger Black squad with a 39. John Seal, Brett Fish and T. J. Seagraves all shot 43 and Trea Mosley scored 49.
For the RHS Gold team, the scoring was consistent as Ty Trapp, Taylor Reeps, Cody Bragwell and Nick Ross all shot 52 while the leader of the Gold team was Alex Pounders at 48.
Coach Phillips was disappointed in his teams' results on Thursday. "It was cold and windy and we played like it. It was not a good day for us."
Russellville takes to the links again on Tuesday as they take on Haleyville and Lawrence County at Twin Pines.
